About the Project
Reproductive Equity Strategy for Tanzania (REST) Partnerships project is youth led initiative which is for youth and by the youth aged between 15-35 under the Voice Of Youth Tanzania in Partnership with DSW -Tanzania ,VOYOTA will use an integrated approach to promote Sexual Reproductive Health rights, self-protection from perpetrators, HIV/AIDS and Sexual Reproduction Health at large .The project will be implemented for the period of six years 2022 to June 2027
Prevention of Teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS infection among Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) remains an important challenge. While new HIV infections have fallen globally by 35% since 2000, including in sub-Saharan Africa with an estimated 1.4 million new HIV infections in 2014, representing a drop of 41% since 2000, the situation of HIV infections in AGYW still remains bleak. In Tanzania, 74% of new HIV infections are among adolescent girls aged 15-19. (WHO, 2019)
The convergence of multiple sexual and reproductive health issues makes reaching AGYW with HIV prevention and Sexual Reproductive Health challenges particularly critical. Despite considerable progress in Teenage pregnancy and HIV prevention and care, including the availability of counseling on HIV risk reduction, promotion of consistent condom use, and, more recently, oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PREP) to reduce the risk of HIV infection, innovative approaches and strategies at how best to reach AGYW are needed urgently.

A CASE ON SEXUAL VIOLENCE
The community dialogue was conducted on 26th April 2023 at Maruvango ward based on SRH and Gender, the gender issues were facilitated by Meru District Gender Police Desk
On early of May, one young lady aged 16 years old, from shishitoni village, Maruvago ward reported a case on sexual Violence, the young lady lives with her grandfather aged 56 old, and her grandmother who traveled to Dar es salaam for health treatment. During the absent of the grandmother, her grandfather forced the young lady to have sex with him, in the effort of refusing the grandfather had to rape the young lady. After the action of being raped she had to share her pain to one of her close friends because she was not aware on what to do and where to report such an incidence, The friend being one among the youth who attended our dialogue under Rest project held at Maruvango ward, where police gender desk from Meru inspector Salama and Sai was the speaker on the dialogues where she got aware on where to report such cases so she helped out the young lady. KEY ASKS WIN
My name is Simon from Maroroni ward, I am a health service provider from Maroroni health facility. In 2023 early March I was selected to attained a one-week training on youth friendly- service provision and the use of sign language. The training was hosted by DSW under the project of REST where VOYOTA supported me financially to attend the training to DSW- Arusha office, the knowledge I obtained from the training has been of much benefit to me and in the health facility because I advocate on having a specific room for provision of friendly service in the Health Facility to the health management team and the ask worn. As for now the health facility has a room to deal with all issues related to sexual reproductive health in the Facility. Moreover, I have transferred the knowledge to my fellow health providers in the facility and resulting to reduction of early pregnancies in the ward.
