Justice for Human Nutrition

September, 2022 – VOYOTA office
Discussion and sensibilization about food, nutrition and Human Rights.

First, the day was focused on raising awareness among young people about the importance of proper nutrition from childhood. To fight against anemia, malnutrition or undernutrition, Roxanna, a nutritionist in Mexico, explained the best ways (which foods to choose, which foods to avoid, etc.) to protect their health.

Then, Kaka J, a student lawyer in France, presented the relationship between food and human rights. There is a right to food, enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in its article 25 (available, accessible, adequate and sustainable food). The right to food has implications for the right to health, education and life. However, the right to food in dignity does not imply a positive obligation on the part of States to distribute food free of charge to the population, so it is not a right to food. Around the right to be fed in dignity, the notions of equity and justice persist. A reflection by group took place. Should the northern states, the richest states, share their resources with the southern states, the developing states, the poorest? Should the UN intervene? In any case, the challenges of the next years and decades will be sharing, cooperation and accessibility.

A success !
